Jonathan Siegrist goes to battle on "Anemology" (5.15b)
When Jonathan first bolted "Anemology" (5.15b) and started working on it, he was convinced it would turn into a multi-season project. The bottom boulder problem was incredibly intense, featuring a challenging (and critical) clip that seemed almost elusive. The first four bolts felt like some of the hardest strength-endurance bouldering he had ever done. After that, a long, complicated section of climbing awaited, with crazy pump and another tough boulder problem at the lip. He spent several weeks working the route, setting a goal to string together a couple of encouraging links. If he couldn’t manage that, he planned to wait until the next season with more preparation. To his surprise, Jonathan had an incredible day and made the link he wanted, which reignited his motivation to keep pushing. From there, he spent another couple of weeks battling to make high points and dial in the bottom section. Along the way, he endured one of the worst flappers he’d ever had and faced relentless, howling winds. Finally, in May 2024, everything came together. Ryan White was there to capture Jonathan’s send, marking the culmination of his hard work and perseverance. Not far away, at Arizona's Virgin River Gorge, Shaina Savoy climbed her favorite route to date—a true rite of passage for any limestone technician — "Fall of Man" (5.13b).
