Jeff Gordon Gave Me a Ride in the NASCAR Garage 56 Le Mans Car!

NASCAR’s Garage 56 car took over Le Mans — and the entire racing community— in 2023. NASCAR partnered with Hendrick Motorsports to transform the current Cup Series race car, called the NextGen, into a hardcore, 24-hour sports car, competing in Le Mans’ experimental Garage 56 class. Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson, and Mike Rockenfeller drove the car in France. I went, and it was the experience of a lifetime. Recently, at the brand new Ten Tenths Motor Club near Charlotte Motor Speedway, motorsports legend Jeff Gordon gave a handful of people ride-alongs in a two-seater version of the Garage 56 car (paint scheme and all!). Gordon won the NASCAR Cup Series championship in four different seasons, and his 93 Cup Series wins put him third on the all-time win list among Cup drivers. He’s one of the greatest to ever do it. Enjoy this onboard of me riding with Gordon in the Garage 56 car. It’s something I’ll never forget. (You’ll notice we had to park the car temporarily. The rear gear was set too tall for a track this short, causing the RPMs to drop when we launched. The oil pressure dropped and put it into protection mode. Nothing serious, just an ECU/tuning issue.)
