James Webb Telescope Spots Oldest Black Hole Collision Ever! | WION Podcast
Astronomers using the James Webb Space Telescope have detected the oldest black hole merger ever recorded, dating back 740 million years after the Big Bang in the ZS7 galaxy system. This marks the earliest known collision of black holes, revealing that merging played a crucial role in their rapid growth during the universe's infancy. One black hole is 50 million times the mass of the Sun, while the other remains hidden in a dense gas cloud. The discovery, published in the Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, also suggests that LISA, a future space-based gravitational wave observatory, may detect more such ancient mergers.
