James O’Brien asks: ‘Is the West dead?’ | LBC
Amid a deteriorating relationship with the United States under Donald Trump, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said "the West as we knew it no longer exists".
Although not directly criticising Trump, she told German newspaper Die Zeit that in Europe "we don't have bros or oligarchs making the rules. We don't invade our neighbours, and we don't punish them."
James O'Brien reflects on her comments and takes a look at the free speech credentials of the Trump administration, including the current battle with Harvard University over DEI and antisemitism.
The US government has sought the deportation of several students who participated in pro-Palestine protests – despite there not being any evidence of them being linked to antisemitism or pro-Hamas activities. Student journalists have also retracted their name from or even removed articles from their publications.
