It’s Not a Van Gogh, But Nice Try Anyway
The story of a lost van Gogh made the news last week. It was bought for $50 at a yard sale and was suspected to be a lost work from the famous artist. Spoiler: it's not. I mean just look at it. So how did its owners, the LMI Group, try to prove otherwise? Well they wrote a comprehensive 500 page report in support of its authenticity for the Van Gogh Museum - which I read so you don't have to.
Actually, I don't even think the owners genuinely considered it to be a van Gogh. So why spend $30,000 on trying to prove otherwise? There is a smart plan underlying all of this, which I discuss in the video.
