Is This Budget Compact BETTER Than a Smartphone?

More photographers seem to be ditching their smartphones and mirrorless cameras for smaller, cheaper and lighter point-and-shoot compact cameras - but why? Well, there are certainly a number of appealing factors, but to see whether it's actually worth it, I ditched my smartphone and bought a used Canon Powershot G1X and used it as my primary camera for 3 months.
