Eurorack VS software... I traveled to Berlin, Germany, to Schneiderladen, arguably the most famous and important eurorack synthesizer shop in the world. The task was to answer the question: what is better? To me the answer is very clear indeed. People talk predominately about sound quality... well I personally think that is daft. How much better does an analogue sine wave sound than a digital sine wave? Probably not very different unless the analogue one is broken or so old the oscillator is unstable, in which case you can just recreate that in digital by adding low pass filtered noise as a frequency modulation source. No, sound quality is completely irrelevant. Don't care. What is important? The hands on jamming with the equipment and being creative, being inspired, being HAPPY. I have way more fun behind a modular system than clicking buttons on a computer. So which is better? Hardware every time.
Does it sound better? Don't care.
Does it have more features? Don't care.
Is it best value for money? Don't care.
Is eurorack elitist? Don't care.
All you torrent guys who download cracked software because you don't want to pay the developers for their blood sweat and tears, of course none of you are buying eurorack. That's obvious. But for those who are actually willing to invest into their primary passion in life, and aren't unemployed, eurorack is the single most exciting thing in electronic music creation, IMHO.
