Introducing the Quadratic Hive (Part 1)
http://biobees.com/quadratic-hive.php The Quadratic Hive came about because I needed to have a way to raise bees that could easily be transferred into any type of hive, including top bar, Warre, National and Langstroth. I also wanted a better mating nuc that those currently available, which are typically too small in which to maintain a stable colony in between mating cycles. I don't want your money! If you want to support our work with native bees, please consider a contribution to Friends of the Bees here - https://friendsofthebees.org If you want to find out more about 'balanced beekeeping', you will find a lot of free info on my web site at https://biobees.com The Quadratic Hive holds five small frames and one box is big enough to keep a queen safe and in laying condition, while two boxes have enough capacity for overwintering a nucleus colony. The frames can easily be mounted inside the frames of any other hive, or suspended under top bars in a TBH or Warre. The full range of uses for these hives will become clear in the videos I will be releasing, and there will be an ebook to accompany them. The Quadratic Hive can be seen as s British version of the very attractive hive that Albert Chubak manufactures in Utah. Mine is designed to work with the UK standard National hive, which is square (18"x18") and therefore a square, quarter size hive is appropriate. I chose to use a single hole entrance on each box, because that means you can use boxes individually as mating hives, as well as stacking them, or using them horizontally in blocks of four. Albert's hive is designed for use with the Langstroth, so Americans and other Langstroth users will benefit from using his design. See http://ecobeebox.net PLEASE NOTE: This is an "open source" design and you are welcome to make as many Quadrati boxes as you wish for your own use. If you manufacture them and sell them, then all I ask is that you donate 10% of your profits to Friends of the Bees CIC - see http://friendsofthebees.org The book of the Quadratic Hive will soon be available on my web site at http://biobees.com SEE PART 2 here - https://youtu.be/JBL51gW7abk Full plans and instructions for building and using the Quadratic Hive now available from here - http://www.lulu.com/shop/philip-chandler/the-quadratic-hive/ebook/product-23322603.html and from my site at http://biobees.com
