Infecting Notepad with vampirism
In this video, I write a semimalicious program that infects other processes and makes them skreek loudly every second in the voice of a bat. This is a version of the trick Matt Knox used in Direct Revenue's adware, but it's also used for non-malicious purposes in many legitimate programs including -- my friend tells me -- OBS and Discord! The program itself is a layer cake of C, Python, Rust and NASM. This might seem excessive, but each step has a justification and I feel confident that in each case I chose the best language for the purpose. That said, the complexity of the packaging means this is the most difficult project I've taken on for YouTube and this was also the most difficult video to make, with roughly 4 recording attempts. A version of the code is available at https://git.chromaticdragon.app/pyrex/injector . However, I have not included the final iteration, as it is actually destructive to an extent that might exceed what is appropriate for hobby malware. If you want to study it, I challenge you to follow my steps and recreate it yourself. The bat sound I used is here: https://freesound.org/people/Garuda1982/sounds/755272/
