This project focuses on designing optical phased arrays(OPA) on integrated photonic chips, in an attempt to create chip-scale lens less imaging. This involves designing and testing optical components using programs such python, or a photonics simulation software, lumerical. Using the data gathered from these programs we will then design the OPA. Once the OPA is designed we will be examining various parameters in order to maximize it's efficiency, and performance. Our goal is for the OPA to be able to receive light from a specific point which we can choose using phase controls on the chip, without any mechanical manipulation. The OPAs will also be able to be used in extreme low light conditions down to the single photon level.
