In this video, I share my personal framework for choosing which project to work on—something I’ve refined over 11 years of software and product development and since leaving my job a year ago to build AI apps. I know firsthand how frustrating it is to pour time into a project only to see it go unused. That’s why I’ve developed a strategy that focuses on projects with real potential. I break down the three main ways a successful software product can be created: 1. Pain-Driven Ideas: I focus on solving problems that I personally experience at work or in my life. By tackling my own pain points first, I ensure that the solution works—and even if it’s not a huge market success, I’ve solved a real problem for me. 2. Tech-Driven Ideas: While new technologies like blockchain, Web3, and AI are exciting, I share why I avoid jumping on trends without addressing an actual need. 3. Cloning: Cloning isn’t about copying pixel-for-pixel; it’s about taking an existing, proven product and adapting it—whether by targeting a new niche, a different geography, or even tweaking the pricing model. I also share some practical examples from my journey, like the simple Slack-Notion integration I built to prioritize messages. If you’re an indie hacker, developer, or just someone interested in building products that people actually use, this video is for you! If you enjoy this content, please subscribe, like, and comment below on which type of project you’d pick—solving your own pain, leveraging new tech, or smart cloning. Thanks for watching, and I can’t wait to see what you build next!
