Charlyn Ng spent the first 16 years of her life inseparable from Auntie Amy, her family’s Filipino domestic helper. Only 18 years older than Charlyn, Auntie Amy played with Charlyn like an elder sister and cared for her like a second mother.
The two haven’t seen each other since Auntie Amy left Singapore in 2010 to return home and start her own family. Now, Charlyn is finally visiting Auntie Amy’s hometown in Tarlac, Philippines, for a long-overdue reunion — one that Amy has no idea is coming. Inspired by the balikbayan boxes she often sends, Charlyn has a special surprise in mind.
