How to Sharpen Chisels - The Gouge
Ben takes take you step by step through the process of sharpening the gouge in the first part of this four part series that includes the gouge, the flat chisel, the skew chisel, and the spindle gouge. The gouge is the main starting chisel for green woodwork, used for roughing out and removing material. Putting a sharp edge on this tool will help achieve best results when turning. In this series Ben uses a Tormek T4 Bushcraft Edition Grinder, Japanese Combination Waterstones, Japanese Slip Stones, Paddle Strop, the Orford Carving Tool Sharpening Set, Tormek paste and Camelia Oil. He also offers you options if you cannot access a Grinder (including Diamond Stones or Regrinding services). Ben then shows you the basic use of each chisel for turning on a lathe.
