How to pose your Characters - Rough Sketching Session!
How to fix the top 5 head construction drawing mistakes: https://www.thedrawingcodex.com/fixyourheads In this Video I take you through my process for sketching out different poses for your characters! This can be a particular challenge as we have to juggle structure, gesture, and character at the same time. I use the Fox Character from my 2014 Pinocchio Book to demonstrate how this typically works. I am using a method very similar to the Figure Drawing method you might see in Andrew Loomis' Figure Drawing for All It's Worth. implementing a simple mannequin created for the fox and then using it to create different poses. If you want to check out the video where I talk about creating the Fox Mannequin it's this one: https://youtu.be/t1Pud2nSNM0 This is just a quick sketching demonstration putting the ideas from that video into practice. These drawings are rough and obviously if we were drawing a finished Illustration there would be another pass on top to refine the details and clean up some of the structure. But practicing this type of rough sketching is really important to understand your character and how they act. Most of the big mistakes happen at this early stage. And the character's performance hangs on these first rough sketches... Happy Drawing!
