How to Make Suet: A Fat and Calcium Rich Bird Food
Join Amanda and Tina as they make their traditional suet recipe!
This suet recipe is a type of bird food that is high in fat and calcium to give birds a great source of nutrition and energy throughout the winter.
Ingredients (enough suet to fill an 8" by 8" baking dish)
2 Cups of Shortening or Rendered Animal Fat
2 Cups of Peanut Butter (Crunchy)
2 Cups of Corn Meal
2 Cups of Oats
Additives:
2 Cups Woodpecker Mix
1 to 2 Cups Blue Bottle Fly Spikes (and /or)
1 to 2 Cups Dehydrated Mealworms
Mix all ingredients thoroughly. Additives can be added last and mixed lightly to incorporate. Use parchment paper to line the bottom of the pan to prevent the suet from sticking. Refrigerate or freeze until the mixture is firm and holds its form. Check out the video for more details, tips, and tricks!
