How To Make A Medieval Arrow - Part Two
Parts III and IV of the Westminster Abbey arrow build.
In this film I forge out the barbed Type 16 military heads, with iron sockets and steel barbs, and fit them to the finished arrows from Part 1. The original arrowhead has a socket diameter of 11mm, slightly larger than the arrowshaft shoulder of 10mm. These heads are typical of the 15th Century, with hardenable steel edges or barbs forge welded to softer, cheaper iron sockets.
Hopefully this inspires some of you to have a go at making these arrows, in a traditional way without modern power tools or adhesives.
