How to Install Kali linux Dual Boot With Windows 10
STEP 1: Prerequisites
Backup Important Data: Dual-booting can lead to data loss if not done correctly. Ensure you back up all important files.
USB Drive: You'll need a USB drive with at least 8GB of space.
Kali Linux ISO: Download the Kali Linux ISO from the official Kali Linux website.
STEP 2: Create a Bootable USB Drive
Download Rufus: Download Rufus, a tool to create bootable USB drives, from rufus.ie.
Create Bootable USB:
Insert your USB drive.
Open Rufus.
Select your USB drive under “Device.”
Choose the Kali Linux ISO file you downloaded.
Click “Start” to create the bootable USB drive.
STEP3: Prepare Windows 10
Disk Management:
Press Win + X and select “Disk Management.”
Right-click on your primary partition (usually C:).
Select “Shrink Volume” and shrink it by at least 20GB to create space for Kali Linux.
This will create unallocated space on your drive.
STEP 4: Boot from USB Drive
Restart Your Computer: Restart your computer and boot from the USB drive.
You may need to press a key (like F12, F2, ESC, or DEL) during startup to enter the boot menu. The specific key depends on your computer's manufacturer.
Boot Menu: Select the USB drive from the boot menu to start the Kali Linux installer.
STEP 5: Install Kali Linux
Start Installation: When the Kali Linux boot menu appears, select “Graphical Install” and press Enter.
Set Language and Location: Follow the prompts to select your language, location, and keyboard layout.
Configure Network: Configure your network settings.
Set Up User Accounts: Set up your root password and user account.
Partition Disks:
Choose “Manual” partitioning.
Select the unallocated space you created earlier in Windows.
Create a new partition for Kali Linux (minimum 20GB).
Create a swap partition (recommended size is twice your RAM).
Install the System: Follow the remaining prompts to install Kali Linux.
Step 6: Configure the Bootloader
Install GRUB: When prompted, install the GRUB bootloader on your primary drive. This will allow you to choose between Windows 10 and Kali Linux at startup.
STEP 7: Finish Installation
Complete Installation: Follow the prompts to complete the installation. Once done, remove your USB drive and reboot your computer.
Select OS: When your computer restarts, you will see the GRUB bootloader menu. Select either Windows 10 or Kali Linux to boot into your desired operating system.
