How to fix Shure Beta 58A microphone when physically broken under grill
My Shure Beta 58A microphone was damaged & broken after my microphone stand fell during a show, and the microphone hit the ground HARD! I unscrewed the grill to find that the plastic upper capsule had completely broken apart, and the 2 wires (Green, Yellow) weren't connected to anything.
I unwrapped the white tape.
Disconnected the top plastic cap by using metal feeler gauges to slide under the plastic tabs and break/cut the adhesive holding the cap on.
Slid the cap up to expose the yellow tape.
Peeled the yellow tape off enough to reveal where the wires were connected to.
Soldered the wires back onto that spot.
Plugged in the mic to confirm it was working again.
Put the yellow tape back.
Slid the plastic cap back into place.
Put the white tape back on.
Used a thin layer of JB Weld Plastic Weld to reconnect the plastic capsule that had broken apart.
Let the Plastic Weld harden.
Applied a small amount of Plastic Weld to any outer visible crack line, and let it harden.
Put the metal grill back on.
Confirmed again that the microphone was still working.
I'm not sure if this method will also work on an SM58, as I've never broken one of those or taken one apart to see if they're relatively the same inside.
