This video will talk about the initial steps before we start CPR, and the actual skills of CPR. Below is list of all the steps that we will see throughout this series. American Heart Association lists it as "Links" called the Chain of Survival. The 5 links in the adult Chain of Survival are • Immediate recognition of cardiac arrest and activation of the emergency response system • Early cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with an emphasis on chest compressions • Rapid defibrillation • Effective advanced life support • Integrated post-cardiac arrest care A strong Chain of Survival can improve chances of survival and recovery for victims of heart attack, stroke and other emergencies. If you are ever unsure if someone needs help, Do Not Hesitate To Call 911. They will be able to walk you through life saving measures. Part 2 of this video will cover How To Use an AED. Learn how to use an AED in 3 simple steps. The 3 steps are: 1. Turn it on 2. Put it on 3. Follow the prompts If CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) is being performed and an AED is available, it should be placed on as soon as possible. An AED looks for a rhythm called Ventricular Fibrillation or V-Fib/VF. If it finds that rhythm, it will charge up and call for a shock. The operator will then makes sure no one is touching the victim, and press a Shock Button. The AED will send an electric shock through the heart to try and stop the heart, in hopes of the heart starting up again in a normal rhythm. It is like a reset button. Please note: The videos in this series are light hearted and meant to be humorous, but make no mistake, this is a serious subject. It is my hope, that you will be able to remember this information in case of an emergency. I believe humor, and the use of music can help us remember things better than listening to a lecture. Also, this video is meant to be a refresher to accompany a local CPR course.
