Using a drum carer helps to create a really nice woollen finish on the yarn. Turning that Batt into roving makes it easier to spin, or at least it does in my opinion. Personally I prefer a nice smooth batt to make a nice smooth yarn, but that is the charm of spinning our own fibre, we can all make just the yarn that we love or need for a particular project.
