How to Determine the Moment About Reaction D and Smallest Force at Point B – Moment Problem 8
In this video, we calculate the angle of the force due to the moment about a point by summation of moments. This problem is solved by using static moment calculations about a point where moment equals a force times a perpendicular distance.

Problem statement:
A 450 N force is applied at A as shown. Determine (a) the moment of the 450 N force about D, (b) the smallest force applied at B that creates the same moment about D.
Problem walkthrough steps:
- Draw a free body diagram
- Using equation and property of moment is equal to force times a perpendicular distance, determine the required moments, distances and applied forces.
