Does changing pickup height affect tone? Yes. Pickup height affects tone, similar to the when you speak closer or farther away from a microphone. The closer you get the louder and brighter the sound, the further away, the further away you lose output and the more mellow and smoother it will sound.

In addition, Jim demonstrates the Gibson specs on pickup adjustment and the best pickup heights for humbucker guitars, including how to set the height of your humbucker pickups for the Gibson Les Paul guitars and ES-335 guitars.
If you don't have a ruler handy, Jim shows you a quick tip on how to measure guitar pickup height using coins for quick and accurate pickup adjustment.
You'll also learn what lowering your pickup height does, and what raising your pickup height does too! And finally, Jim answers the question, should you raise your guitar pickups at all?
