HOPE IN GOD'S WORD AND SPIRIT | The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (Jan 26, 2025) with Sign Language Today is the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time, and the gospel narrates Jesus standing in the synagogue and reading from a scroll of Isaiah: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord.” To his listeners, Jesus says this is fulfilled in their hearing. The Jubilee foretold by Isaiah has finally come. God’s salvation and kingdom is at hand. And as we journey through the Ordinary Time, we will rediscover how God’s salvation is made manifest through the speech and action of Jesus. Friends, the reading is appropriate for the Jubilee Year 2025 which has just begun. We are “Pilgrims of Hope.” Let us find hope in Jesus, his Person and his word. Let us pass on hope to others.
