Honda EX5500 - Owner Tried Fixing with a Sawzall and Gave Up
Someone threw away this early 80's liquid cooled Honda EX5500 generator after the eletric start failed. Simple fix? It should be, but the starter is very hard to get to. The original owner resored to using a Sawzall before finally given up and through this beatiful piece of engineering out with the trash. Will it run and make power again? Harbor Freight changed the recipe. The bottle previously stated "NON-CORROSIVE". Now it says "CORROSIVE", "do not user on Aluminum". It now damages most carburetors. Recently I have been using Simple Green PRO HD with good results. #GeneratorRepair #Generator #SmallEngineRepair #SmallEngine #DIY #Fixed #Troubleshooting #HowTo AVR, Alternator, Bad Capacitor, Bad Starter, Battery Box, Carb Clean, Carburetor, Compression Test, Contaminated Oil, EX5500, Fixed, Flash the Field, GX360, Generator Maintenance, Generator Not Working, Generator, Governor Arm, Hertz, Honda, How To, How to Fix Generator, How to Remove Carburetor, How-To, Ignition Coil Gap, Load Test, Mouse House, New Starter, No Power, Obsolete Part, Overengineered, Portable Generator Repair, Power Quality, Pull Flywheel, Repair, Residual Magnetism, Small Engine Repair, Small Engine, Sound Level, Spark Test, Speed Adjustment, Starter Test, THD, Troubleshooting, Twin Cylinder, Voltage Regulator, Water in Oil, Wiring, Won't Crank, dB, Mouse House, Mouse Damage, Chewed Wires 00:00 Intro 03:29 Checking the Vitals 06:01 Pulling the Handle 07:33 Removing the Control Panel and Wiring 11:40 Removing the Ignition Coil and Flywheel 15:58 Out With the Old Starter 22:48 Carb Time 39:11 Unusual Find 42:49 In With the New Starter 47:23 Ignition and Flywheel 50:38 Starter Test 52:31 Spark Test 53:38 Compression Test 55:56 Carb Install 1:03:42 Connecting the Wires 1:04:24 First Start 1:05:52 We Have a Problem 1:06:14 Getting to the Bottom of the Problem 1:08:19 Oh Boy! 1:11:29 Insulation Test 1:18:57 Capacitor Test 1:22:41 Flashing the Field 1:24:15 DPE Load Test 1:28:52 User Error 1:36:15 Fixed? 1:39:44 Closing Up 1:50:07 Honda Supports Their Stuff 1:55:53 First Start in 5 Months 1:57:55 Fluid Change 2:00:55 Repairing the Mouse Damage 2:03:47 Load Test 2:10:52 Conclusion
