Hezbollah Slams Lebanon 'Ban' On Iranian Planes As Israel Claims Funds Smuggled Via Beirut Airport
Protesters blocked the road to Lebanon’s only commercial airport with burning tires on Thursday after a passenger plane from Iran wasn't allowed to fly to Beirut, Lebanon’s state-run National News Agency reported. It appeared the protesters' ire was directed at the Lebanese government and airport authorities, who they said had capitulated to Israeli pressure to cancel the flight. Lebanon's civil aviation agency said "additional security measures" meant some flights were temporarily rescheduled until Feb. 18 -- the same day as a deadline for Israel and the militant group Hezbollah to fully implement their ceasefire. Earlier Thursday (Feb. 13), the Israeli army said in a statement that Iran and Hezbollah were “exploiting Beirut Airport and civilian flights to smuggle funds intended to strengthen the terrorist organization and support terror activities against the state of Israel.” Meanwhile, Lebanon's parliamentary speaker has said that Beirut rejected Israel's demand to remain in five southern locations after the Feb.18 deadline. Lebanon's military was to deploy in the south alongside UN as the IDF withdrew over a 60-day period, which was extended until Feb. 18. Berri said the US, a key mediator, informed him that “Israeli occupation will withdraw from villages it still occupies on February 18.” However, the US told Berri that the IDF will remain in five points,", according to a statement released by his office. #lebanon #israel #idf #hezbollah #iran #beirut n18oc_world n18oc_crux 0:00 INTRODUCTION 2:15 BEIRUT AIRPORT IN ISRAELI CROSSHAIRS 4:05 ISRAEL WARPLANES BOMB HEZBOLLAH SITES 4:48 LEBANON REJECTS ISRAELI DEMAND TO REMAIN IN 5 SOUTHERN LOCATIONS CRUX is your daily video news guide to the big events that are shaping our world.
