Was wie ein warmer Sommertag im bayrischen München klingt, ist in Wirklichkeit im Südosten Brasiliens. Dort liegt die Stadt Blumenau mit heute rund 300.000 Einwohner*innen. Im 19. Jahrhundert von deutschen Einwanderer*innen aus Sachsen-Anhalt gegründet, findet man heute eine lebendige bayrisch-deutsche Kultur in Blumenau vor. So besuchen dort jährlich mehr als 600.000 Menschen das Oktoberfest, die Stadt ist übersät mit Biergärten und in der Fußgängerzone spielen Musiker*innen in Tracht Blasinstrumente und Akkordeon. Wie entstand dieses Verständnis deutscher Kultur und Tradition in der brasilianisch-deutschen Stadt? Wie hat sich die Einwandererkultur gewandelt und wer identifiziert sich mit der aktuellen deutschen Kultur in Blumenau? Der Film Heimat ist (im) Nirgendwo setzt sich sowohl mit der Geschichte der Stadt, sowie mit den bis heute erhaltenen kulturellen Überlieferungen auseinander. Er behandelt die Frage nach der kulturellen Identität der Einwohner*innen sowie das Verständnis der deutschen Kultur, die heute dort gelebt wird. What sounds like a warm summer day in Munich, Bavaria, is actually in southeastern Brazil. There lies the city of Blumenau, which today has a population of around 300,000. Founded in the 19th century by German immigrants from Saxony-Anhalt, Blumenau today has a lively Bavarian-German culture. More than 600,000 people attend the Oktoberfest there every year, the city is littered with beer gardens, and musicians in traditional costume play brass instruments and accordions in the pedestrian zone. How did this understanding of German culture and tradition develop in the Brazilian-German city? How has the immigrant culture changed and who identifies with the current German culture in Blumenau? The film Heimat ist (im) Nirgendwo (Home is (in) Nowhere) deals with both the history of the city and the cultural traditions that have survived to the present day. It deals with the question of the cultural identity of the inhabitants as well as the understanding of the German culture that is lived there today.
