Greenhouse Build Series 3 - Roof and Polycarbonate Glazing
How to build a post & beam greenhouse. In this video I start work on making the roof rafters. I cut a pattern of the rafter shape and copied it on western red cedar 2x6 blanks. After cutting and staining these rafters they have a birds mouth notch cut and then they are installed on the roof between the North-South 6x6 beams and the 2x8 ridge beam. Then 2x4 and 2x6 blocking is added between the rafters to add stability to the roof structure. Then I begin cutting the twin wall clear UV protected polycarbonate panels and screw them to the wall studs with roofing screws. Then the glazing is cut and installed on the roof. A custom made ladder is used to lay over the roof to then add the ridge cap. We also make a door from cedar that will support two polycarbonate panels after it is installed in the next episode. This is the third instalment of the detailed greenhouse build series. I have a 14 page greenhouse plan that's available at the link below.
