Grabbing Military Satellite Data With Hacked TV Dish
How do you use an old free satellite dish if you don't care about TV? Obviously you download images from US Military satellites!
This project uses a motorized antenna from an RV (the Winegard "Trav'ler" dish) that I found on FB marketplace. I replaced the stock LNB with a 3D printed helical feed for the microwave S-band (You can find the 3D printer files here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4980180
I'm using a Nooelec HackRF One Software Defined Radio: https://amzn.to/3WxWsYL
I also have an RTL-SDR Wideband LNA: https://amzn.to/3WEorWX
I'm also using a Minicircuits 1710-2400MHz LNA like this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/185692990203
(You might be able to find them cheaper if you're not in a hurry)
You can find my computer code to interface with the dish here: https://github.com/saveitforparts/Travler_Rotor
Gpredict is here: https://oz9aec.dk/gpredict/
Big thanks to Nate (saito720 on Discord) for the ground track animation!
Also thanks to Scott from California for suggestions with my regex code.
And thanks to ISO-Tip for the new soldering iron, you can find them at https://iso-tip.com/
I use SatDump software for most of my satellite data processing: https://www.satdump.org/
I also use N2YO.com for satellite tracking: https://www.n2yo.com
