From Fallen Trees to Natural Hedge | Dead Hedge Build & Storm Clean-up
Although we were extremely lucky with little damage to our roof from Storm Éowyn here in Ireland, we suffered from fallen trees on our future homestead. We take the fallen trees as well as other old branches and create a dead hedge. Making this dead hedge was a lot of fun, once we found the best way forwards with it. Using branches from the fallen conifer to make the timber support posts, we then went to work using willow branches and conifer greenery to form the dead hedge to the required height. This will all die back to leave a bug hotel. We many more fallen trees to clean-up, we won't be short of firewood for next Winter. A lot of people are searching for Irish cottage renovations and Irish cottage restorations but we can't fall under either of those due to our house being a farmhouse. We are leaning more towards restoration and conservation of our 110+ year old farmhouse than we are renovation but appreciate we can't not renovate and update some things the once derelict farmhouse as we go. We were complete beginners at restoration, let alone a 110 year old farmhouse, also really needing a "homesteading for beginners" guide we are still taking it slowly, enjoying everything we do no matter how hard it is, to one day realise our dream of running a fully functioning homestead from our once derelict Irish Farmhouse. 👨‍👨‍👦‍👦 Become a Channel Member: https://www.youtube.com/@thecornerhouseproject/join ☕ Buy Us A Coffee: https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thecornerhouseproject 🥇 Thank you to those for supporting us with a Super Thanks There is something for everyone at The Corner House Project, if you subscribed for the derelict house restoration and renovations or just for the homestead in Ireland, we will bring the smiles, you sit back and relax and let us do the work.... well, Dawn will do the work.
