Hi guys, long time no see. Sorry to have kept you waiting for such a long time but this was a lot more work than usual and I really wanted to get this right. So here it is, my overly long analysis / deep dive into my all time favourite Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy IX.
This is one of the most interesting and unique fantasy worlds I’ve ever explored in a video game. Gia is a world of bizarre and wondrous creatures, dazzling cities and explosive magical powers. We’ll be joining the dashing rogue Zidane, the little Black Mage Vivi, the rusty knight Steiner and the beautiful princess Garnet as they adventure across the mist continent and all around the world to uncover a great mystery and save it from certain destruction at the hands of terrible and diabolical fiends.
With a princess a knight, a wizard and a cast of talking animals this is, on the surface at least, a simple fairy tale but burrow down a little deeper and you find a tale of existential dread, loss and heartbreak and the forging of bonds between friends and comrades that can withstand even the greatest of challenges. So let’s climb aboard an airship and sail the skies above Gia as we explore the dizzying highs and infuriating lows of one of the best jrpgs ever made.
