Farm Killer Thinks He's Getting Away With It | Case of James Brenner
On May 28th, 2022, 19-year-old Dylan Rounds was last heard from while working on his farm in the remote desert area of Lucin, Utah. That evening, he called his grandmother to let her know he was moving his grain truck into shelter before the rain hit. It was the last time anyone spoke to him. What followed was a chilling disappearance that left his family desperately searching for answers and investigators combing through a series of cryptic clues. When Dylan’s parents, Candice Cooley and Justin Rounds, were unable to reach him, their concern quickly turned to alarm. On May 30th, Dylan was officially reported missing to the Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office. His truck was found on his property with the back window smashed, but Dylan was nowhere to be found. His family also noticed the suspicious absence of his firearms—a shotgun and a pistol—which he always kept with him. Search and Rescue teams began scouring the desolate terrain of Lucin, with assistance from local law enforcement. Early leads pointed investigators to two individuals who lived nearby—James Brenner, a squatter residing in a trailer near Dylan’s property, and Don Hatley, another local acquaintance. As the search intensified, troubling signs began to emerge. On May 31st, investigators discovered Dylan’s boots near a dirt mound not far from his property. The boots were tested and found to contain traces of blood. Around the same time, pings from Dylan’s cellphone placed its last known location near the grain truck—right where Dylan was last seen. By June 1st, detectives turned their focus to James Brenner. They made their way to his property, marking a pivotal moment in the investigation as law enforcement sought answers from the man living just a short distance from Dylan’s last known location.
