Explanation About SUMANWAGU (SUMANdak tanakWAGU) Assist by Angkol Lerry(Lerry Leo)
“SUMANWAGU” is inspired by words in the Dusun language from the state of Sabah, specifically SUMANDAK, which means an unmarried girl, and TANAKWAGU, which means an unmarried young man. I used a “short-form” concept to combine parts of these two words. This song is the first one written by me after being involved in the music entertainment world for a long time, as I usually sing songs written in collaboration with other songwriters or composers. The words Sumandak and Tanakwagu are the most commonly used terms, not only by Dusun people but also by everyone in Sabah, and even outside Sabah, especially in casual or formal conversations.
Sumandak
Refers to a girl, a young woman, or a maiden who has reached adulthood but is still unmarried.
Tanak Wagu
Refers to a young man who has reached adulthood but is still unmarried.
In other words, Sumandak and Tanak Wagu refer to youth or teenagers who are not married. If someone is still a teenager but has already married, they would not be called Sumandak or Tanak Wagu because they are married. The term that would be used is Tondu or Kusai, which means woman or man, respectively.
