This is a really fun discussion with Wendell from Level1 Techs on Ryzen's interesting behaviors with compile benchmarks and "programming" tests.

When we first started trying to fulfill the viewer request of "programming benchmarks," we decided to tackle it with GCC compiling -- namely, using GCC to compile GCC -- and later did additional testing with MinGW and Msys2, all of which produced results we didn't expect. The result showed the 9900K doing worse than even an R5 2600, which doesn't make much sense when considering frequency and core count, but it turns out that wasn't even what the test was stressing. In this video, Wendell helps distill down why our results were what they were, then talks about if there's a better solution.
