Beth Hickling-Moore, a literary and creative translator, discusses her teaching career and transition to translation. She began teaching early, including as a Teach First participant in a challenging North London school. Despite limited resources, she completed her PGCE and NQT roles. Later, she moved to a structured academy and then to a lead practitioner role in East London. Personal circumstances led her to pursue a Master's in Translation at Bristol. Beth emphasises the importance of early online presence, networking, and rejection resilience in her new career. She secured significant projects, including a 550-page novel translation, and highlighted the supportive translator community.
