Here are the steps to find the eigenvalues and eigenvectors:
1)For the matrix: Start with a square matrix, usually denoted “A”.
With a given matrix A, we want to find its eigenvalues and eigenvectors.
2)Characteristic equation: The first step is to find the eigenvalues.
To do this, you need to solve the characteristic equation.
The characteristic equation of the square matrix A is given by: det(A - λI) = 0 where λ (lambda) is the eigenvalue, I is the Identity matrix with the same size as A and det () is the determinant of matrix A - λI.
3)Solve for Eigenvalues: Solve the characteristic equation for λ. This will give you a set of eigenvalues, which might be real or complex.
4)For each Eigenvalue λ:
Find Eigenvectors: To find the corresponding eigenvector(s) for each eigenvalue, you need to solve the equation: (A - λI)X= 0 ,where X is the eigenvector.
