Video Description
~~~~~
You may have already heard of the Free & Open Source application repository called F-Droid. But here today, I want to highlight an application called Droid-ify that combines the repositories of F-Droid, IzzyOnDroid, and popular modules for Xposed.
#foss #opensource #android
This way, you don't have to use three separate app stores just to install, update, and manage applications from these three sources.
And I'll be sure to link to the Droid-ify GitHub page down in the video description below.
improved design
The first thing you may notice is how the application looks different than F-Droid.
While I don't really mind the design of F-Droid, I do think they could make better use of the space.
We're able to manually install or update from the app page.
There's a nice gallery for screenshots
Drop down menus reveal links pertaining to the application
While also offering a list of permissions that it uses.
And we have access to older versions at the bottom
Functionally, these are all visible within F-Droid as well, but many would say the design of Droidify looks much better in their eyes.
features
There are a number of different ways you can find and browse apps within this repository.
The default list here will be sorted by showing the latest updates at the top.
But this can be changed to show what's new, or by name
The refresh button will download the latest data from the enabled repositories
And we can dive into specific categories as well, for those times when we want to look through specific types of apps.
Looking into the Settings page, there are a number of feature included with Droid-ify.
We can enable or disable the Material You option.
The application can let you enable automatic updates
And we have ways to import or export the repositories that it will connect to.
integrated repos
and that's really where I think Droidify shines
the ability to easily enable or disable dozens of different repositories that it will connect to.
These repos can be manually added to F-Droid, but how many people want to go through with that.
So if we tap the 3-dot menu icon up here, we can then select the repositories feature
And here we will see all the different repos that can be quickly enabled or disabled within the application.
By default, you'll only have F-Droid and IzzyOnDroid repositories enabled, but you can see there are a lot of them to choose from.
It only takes a simple tap to enable one, and you'll see the Droid-ify application will automatically pull that data for you.
We can even manually add a repository from here as well.
I also like that Droidify already has an Xposed category that includes a number of modules that can be installed and updated from here.
conclusion
If you're a fan of Free and Open Source software for Android, then I highly recommend checking out the Droid-ify application today.
It offers more than just what you get out of F-Droid, while also being able to replace F-Droid entirely. . .even if you only use it to access the F-droid repo for true FOSS applications and games.
and as mentioned, you can find the link to download the latest version of Droidify down in the video description below.
