Until I finally figured it out, I was constantly wondering what the great bass players are thinking about when they're laying down some serious grooves, or busting out an epic solo... -- Are they thinking notes? -- Are they thinking patterns? -- Are they playing licks? Some people players I studied with said they thought notes, some said they thought patterns, and the gag is... they're really doing ALL three of the of the above... but, the really great players are doing something else as well.
