Out of Sony’s first-party exclusives—like God of War, Ghost of Tsushima, and Spider-Man—Days Gone has always felt like the black sheep. Yeah it wasn’t critically acclaimed or a massive commercial success like all those titles, but it wasn’t a huge flop either. It sold like 8 million copies over its lifetime and was deemed worthy of the Remaster treatment like Sony’s other PS4 titles that absolutely don’t need them. The way Days Gone was criticized—both before launch and in reviews—always felt off to me. Like people were actively looking for things to dislike. Nitpicking small issues, or unfairly comparing it to other games, instead of judging it on its own merits.
