This is an AMAZING story - @Loverecordphl (Max Ochester) unearthed LOST - NEVER HEARD IN 50 YEARS - 2" Studio Master Tapes from @davidbowie recorded at @SigmaSoundStudios during the Young Americans Sessions in 1974! We interview 3 of the engineers involved in David Bowie's time at Sigma Sound Studios. Including Dirk Devlin, Peter Humphreys & Jim Gallagher. We also interview Peter Wertimer, who was the first concert promoter to bring David Bowie to the Tower Theater in Philadelphia, PA during his Ziggy Star Dust Tour - and this led to Bowie being interested in working in Philadelphia. These master tapes have never been heard before & we are trying to reunite them with their rightful owners - so hopefully we can one day get an official release of these amazing studio out takes - including what could possibly be the first time Luther Vandross (a then unknown singer) was officially recorded on tape!
If you are a fan of David Bowie or The Sound of Philadelphia, you are going to want to read this…
The recordings in our possession capture the meeting of Carlos Alomar, Robin Clarke, Luther Vandross and David Bowie for the extraordinary Young Americans album. The discovery of these tapes document the birth of Fame as a composition, and pre-dates the well known NY recording session with John Lennon. These tapes are proof that the composition of FAME took place in Philadelphia, home of the Gamble and Huff empire which was the initial reason Bowie chose to record this record here.
