D-Day | How One General Turned Disaster Into Victory (WW2 Documentary)
On the bloodiest part of the bloodiest beach of D-Day, a plan that had been months in the making had gone seriously wrong. For the men of the untested 29th Infantry Division, the promised quick and decisive win had turned into hours of gruelling hell. Bad weather, rough seas and poor support were just the beginning of what would become a fight for survival on the shores of Normandy. Despite the unfurling catastrophe, one man remained determined to see the mission accomplished. Brigadier General Norman ‘Dutch’ Cota stepped from his landing craft to join his men on the blood-strewn beach that was Omaha. Under a hail of withering fire, the general rallied his troops and personally led an assault that would unlock the Vierville draw and secure a vital foothold in ‘Fortress Europe’. This is the story of the men who journeyed into the inferno and one whose leadership created order from chaos on perhaps the most famous day in military history.
