In this talk we detail how to reduce your compute's emissions. The first step is simply to power off bare metal servers when demand does not require their use - something many companies do not do, but that can be easily achieved with Kubernetes and CAPI providers. We also talk about how to go further - automate emissions reductions by integrating real time electricity emissions data into Kubernetes, allowing you to schedule workloads when renewables are the primary source of electricity, and power down your bare metal, energy consuming computers at other times. Many companies run workloads that can be time shifted - so why not time shift them to when they will have the least impact on climate change - and save electricity costs as a bonus!
