Convert Windows XP To VMware Fusion *PLUS* Reviving Music/Video Production Retro Style!
Convert Windows XP To VMware Fusion - Music and Video Production Retro Style 🖥️ In this video tutorial I show you in great detail how to convert a Windows XP computer to run as a virtual machine on a Mac in VMware Fusion. I go through every little step, using the free VMware Standalone Converter tool and getting Windows XP running as a virtual machine in a Mac Hackintosh Sonoma system with VMware Fusion Pro (free for personal use). I will do a separate video on VMware Workstation Pro for Windows, but steps shown here apply to a VM in Windows as well. Converting Windows XP to run as a virtual machine has a retro vibe to it with the added benefit of Windows XP running much faster in the VM. In my conversion I see a 658% performance increase! This video will be useful for anyone looking to do a full physical-to-virtual (P2V) conversion of Windows XP, but the steps I show apply to pretty much any conversion of a physical windows computer. You will see how I go about converting Windows XP, including hard drives, programs. No reinstalling anything. *PLUS A BONUS:* for those of you who may have old music production and video editing setups on Windows XP, I also show a test of running Cubase SX and Vegas Pro in the virtual machine, including use of a USB audio interface as well as USB dongles (those annoying things work in a virtual machine), and sophisticated audio routing. The steps I show here will also generally apply to any other music production or video editing setup in Windows XP. So get a USB stick and some patience ready, and join me on this interesting technological road trip! ********* For this computer build, knowing I need the computer to work on Windows 11 or Mac Sonoma, recipe 🍲 is: *Asus Z790 ProArt Creator Wifi* - https://amzn.to/3Z1Uger - fantastic motherboard with great dual GPU support, thunderbolt 4, tons of connectivity options *Intel 14700K* - https://amzn.to/3LXIh9L - don’t worry about all the Intel fear spreading - I show you in how to set BIOS to achieve better stability *AMD 6950 XT Red Devil GPU* - https://amzn.to/46BqO0z - Not the latest/greatest, but excellent GPU and current best GPU that will work on a custom Mac/Hack *G.Skill Trident Z5 2x32 GB DDR5 6400 Memory* - https://amzn.to/3Apnbyu - on Asus Qualified Vendor List (QVL) *Western Digital SN850X NVMe SSDs* - https://amzn.to/3SG1Wig - tried and true for Hackintosh *Samsung 990 Pro NVMe SSD* - https://amzn.to/3SGcNZv - also among the best NVME SSDs in terms of stability/performance/price on the market *Samsung T9 Shield USB SSD* - https://amzn.to/3WUBMuE - super reputable, fast external USB SSD *Western Digital EasyStore 5 TB, and 8 TB* - https://amzn.to/3WTuYO6 - reputable USB HDD solutions for backup *Thermalright Phantom Spirit Evo 120 Cooler* - https://amzn.to/4dxXB91 - Known as best air cooler out there, especially when paired with an awesome case… like the… *Fractal Torrent RGB Case* -https://amzn.to/4cJ4Dqo - A legend, one of the best cases you can find *Corsair RM1000X Power Supply* - https://amzn.to/4ddzKvj - Rock solid PSU, as Corsair continues its hugely successful and well performing RMX PSU line *Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut Thermal Paste* - https://amzn.to/3ymcQTF - known to help get a little bit of extra thermal performance out of your system *Thermalright CPU Contact Frame* - https://amzn.to/3WYmap5 - a tried and true contact frame replacement that is known to help get a little better cooling performance for Intel 13/14 Generation CPUs —--------- 🎶 🎸 🎹 🎻 🎷 Music used in this video (Artist - Track): ====== Tracklist ====== 00:00 —--------- 📖 📚 Chapters in this video: 00:00 - Introduction 01:26 - Philosophical Aside 02:54 - Checking Your Connections 04:08 - Turning On Your Old Computer And Hoping It Works 05:17 - Gathering The Tools 05:41 - Download VMware Standalone Converter 06:10 - Download And Run MergeIDE 08:03 - Install VMWare Standalone Converter 09:00 - Performing XP to VM Conversion With VMware Standalone Converter 13:02 - Install VMware Fusion On Mac 16:17 - Launching Win XP In VMware Fusion For First Time 17:09 - Adjust Display 17:33 - Install VMware Tools 19:47 - Uninstall Unnecessary Programs From XP 20:39 - Ensure Drive Letters As Needed 21:11 - Confirm Internet/Network Is Working 21:48 - Make Changes To VMware Fusion Configuration Settings 26:37 - Confirm VMware Fusion Shared Folders Working 26:52 - Remove Unneeded Network Drives, Shared Folders From Original Computer 27:17 - Remove/Disable Unneeded Network Connections 28:47 - Connecting USB Drives In VMware Fusion 29:07 - Confirm Drag & Drop, Copy & Paste Working 29:50 - Run Benchmark In Virtual XP 31:47 - Fully Test Music Production and Video Editing Software 32:05 - Confirm USB Dongles Connected in VMware Fusion 32:56 - Testing Music Production In Cubase SX 3 In Win XP VMware Fusion 35:17 - Advanced Audio Routing In XP VM 38:35 - Test Video Editing Performance In XP In VMware Fusion 41:38 - Summary
