Code is language, we should teach it that way. | Tim Mask | TEDxAntioch
This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. The educational system in the United States has inadvertently built a wall between creative/critical thinking and technical skills that is as artificial and economically oppressive as the one that once bisected Berlin. Breaking down this wall, especially in regard to coding education and computer, will mean the difference between being a worker versus and owner in the knowledge economy. Tim Mask is an advertising professional who understands that to be prosperous in the knowledge economy, we must break from our traditional workforce development approach. As part of an initiative to address the brain drain issue, Tim is organizing a public/private/non-profit partnership in Mississippi that pulls together college students from various study programs and places them in an incubator for interactive application development. About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
