The Belt and Road Initiative is a trade network between Asia, Europe and Africa. More than 70 countries are now part of the network. The Belt and Road Initiative is considered a centerpiece of Chinese Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping's foreign policy. The Chinese government calls the initiative an "attempt to improve regional connectivity and strive for a better future." Some observers see it as a plan for Chinese world domination through a China-centered global trade network. The project is expected to be completed by 2049, which coincides with the 100th anniversary of the People's Republic of China.
