China Upgrades Ream Naval Base in Cambodia, Launches Drills | Vantage with Palki Sharma | N18G China launched naval drills in Cambodia at the Ream Base. These drills come after the Ream Naval base was recently inaugurated after it was upgraded using money from China. Beijing has spent millions of dollars from 2021 till 2025 to expand the base. The Ream naval base now has a new pier and larger docking stations which can allow the docking of warships, including Aircraft Carriers. However, Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Manet has now extended the invite to other nations to use the facilities at the Ream Naval Base. Meanwhile, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines have raised concerns that China’s increased presence at Ream could escalate tensions in the already contested South China Sea.
