ChildGICR: why it's fundamental, with Dr Florencia Moreno
Dr Florencia Moreno, a paediatric oncologist and the Director of the Argentinian Paediatric Oncology Registry, explains why the ChildGICR is such a fundamental part of cancer control. IARC hosted the Targeting Childhood Cancer through the Global Initiative for Cancer Registry Development (ChildGICR) workshop devoted to registration of childhood cancers on 2–4 October 2024. More than 20 researchers from IARC, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (in Memphis, Tennessee, USA), and institutions in 13 countries participated in the workshop. During the workshop, experts in epidemiology, paediatric oncology, and cancer registration discussed past approaches and future strategies to raise awareness, build capacity, and improve networking between professionals striving for the same ultimate goal of strengthening childhood cancer control across the globe. IARC and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital launched ChildGICR as a bilateral collaborative agreement in May 2020.
