Check your engine's health with a Vacuum Gauge | Super easy DIY!
A vacuum gauge is not only super easy to use but it's also quite inexpensive. With a vacuum gauge you can quickly check the health of your vehicle's engine. As shown in today's video, you can quickly check for vacuum leaks, intake manifold leaks, head gasket leaks, brake booster leaks, sticky valves or broken and worn valve springs. Quite similar to a leak down test but much easier, less expensive and less tools required. You will see why a vacuum gauge is important, the purpose of a vacuum gauge, where to use a vacuum gauge, what a vacuum line does on a car, what a vacuum gauge can indicate, how to test an engine with a vacuum gauge, symptoms of low engine vacuum and poor engine vacuum. The gauge shown today is a Mityvac vacuum pump. Symptoms of leaking engine vacuum include: engine stalls, rough idle, engine hesitation, poor acceleration and engine not returning to idle. This specific vehicle is a 2010 Subaru Impreza. Intake manifold vacuum at idle with the a/c off should be: -60.0 kPa (-450mmHg , -17.72 inHg) or more. Reading the vacuum gauge: (a) Vacuum gauge needle is steady but lowers as engine temperature increases: Air leakage around intake manifold gasket, disconnection or damage of vacuum hose. (b) Vacuum gauge needle drops: Leakage around cylinder or sticky valve. (c) Vacuum gauge needle vibrates: Weak or broken valve springs or check ignition system. ► Subscribe: http://youtube.com/carsntoys ►► Tools: https://www.amazon.com/shop/carsntoys Hose pliers: https://amzn.to/3oSJZin Mityvac Vacuum Gauge: https://amzn.to/34DKUab ►►► Videos used in today's episode: Brake bleeding at home: https://youtu.be/gsw8Svsu2g0 How much to machine cylinder heads: https://youtu.be/ouubCmnWpVo Misfire Diagnosis: https://youtu.be/5DxSLKUbTAE Subaru engine removal (for head gaskets): https://youtu.be/CCRj7PIVU5g Testing EGR Valves - New vs Old: https://youtu.be/L7yBlFvGSqQ 0:00 - Intro 0:36 - Using a vacuum pump to diagnose your car 1:45 - Brake booster vacuum hose 2:29 - Vacuum pump to intake manifold 3:34 - Reading vacuum gauge kPa 5:28 - Vacuum gauge for head gasket issues 6:09 - Finding leaks on your car or truck 7:23 - Finding ignition issues or problems 8:08 - Saving money diy Note: Any attempt to repair automotive parts and/or systems carries risk of personal injury.
