Can you Shoot Someone in South Africa?
Join us as we take a look at what the law says about the use of deadly force when defending yourself or a loved one.
This is a hot topic in South Africa, with plenty of misinformation and braai stories being circulated without any fact checking or knowledge.
Some of these mistruths are that you WILL go to jail if you shoot someone in self defence. As we will see in the video, this is utter nonsense. Although procedural based law does mean a case or inquest will be opened, you do not have a one way ticket to jail.
We highly recommend joining up with Firearms Guardian - https://firearmsguardian.co.za/gunlicence/
They will defend you if you do find yourself on the business end of a defensive shooting. They have a long list of benefits and the peace of mind their service provides is worth its weight in gold.

Appeal court rulings are more commonly found in legal databases and search results because they set precedents that are significant for the interpretation of law and are often referenced in other legal cases and studies. Appeal decisions are generally more detailed and influential, discussing legal principles and interpretations that impact future cases. Trial court decisions, on the other hand, often involve more specific factual determinations and may not be published unless they are appealed or considered significant for legal precedent.
