This cab ride takes us on the Trem da Serra do Mar, a historic railway line operating between Rio Negrinho and Rio Natal in Santa Catarina. Run by the Brazilian Association for Railway Preservation (ABPF-SC), this section of the São Francisco do Sul branch line has been delighting visitors since its inauguration in 1995. There are two journeys weekly, on Saturdays you can go from Rio Negrinho to Corupá and on Sundays back to Rio Negrinho. Route Highlights: * Starting Point: Rio Negrinho Station (791 meters above sea level), a historic hub of railway heritage and home to ABPF-SC. * Altitude Changes: The route climbs gently to Rio Vermelho Station at 820 meters before descending into the lush Serra do Mar to Rio Natal (350 meters). * Breath-taking Scenery: As we pass through the rural landscapes of São Bento do Sul, enjoy captivating views of waterfalls, lush Atlantic Forest vegetation, rivers, viaducts, and tunnels showcasing early 20th-century engineering marvels. * Historical Railways: The tracks and Rio Negrinho Station were inaugurated in 1913, connecting the region's communities and industries. The Steam Locomotive 🚂 Historic “Mikado” steam locomotive lead the way, preserving Brazil’s rail heritage: * Baldwin 761 mikado 2-8-2 The locomotive originally served on the Estrada de Ferro Donna Teresa Cristina, hauling coal trains before being lovingly restored for passenger excursions.
