Brutally analyzing DREAM ACADEMY based on talent (Pop Star Academy Katseye Eliminated Trainees)

The Debut: Dream Academy was a groundbreaking reality competition from HYBE and Geffen Records, aimed at creating a global girl group. HYBE, known for its K-pop artists, partnered with Geffen, home to stars like Camila Cabello and Olivia Rodrigo, to blend K-pop’s rigorous training with a global approach. According to HYBE’s Bang PD, the goal was to form a global group rooted in K-pop’s training system. This Training and Development (T&D) process, spanning over a year, focused on vocals, dance, star quality, visual performance, and attitude. Trainees faced monthly evaluations, leading to rankings based on their skills and growth. Unbeknownst to them, this training led to a survival show with fan voting and eliminations. In September 2023, 20 trainees competed over 12 weeks in 3 missions, but only 6 would debut as the final group—KATSEYE. Now, almost a year later, Netflix has released a 2024 documentary titled Pop Star Academy: KATSEYE revisiting the HYBE x Geffen trainees. Thus, this reflects new insights from the documentary. Despite being a global project, it aligns with our channel’s focus on K-pop’s impact, as the trainees followed its training model.
